SR 290 - Hamilton Street to Mission - Paving - Complete October 2018

Needs & benefits

SR 290-Trent Ave was resurfaced with hot mix asphalt from the City of Spokane roundabout at Perry Street to the Mission Avenue "Y" intersection.  The City of Spokane constructed a roundabout at the Trent/Perry intersection.  (The segment from Hamilton to Perry will be resurfaced as part of the Spokane River Bridge Replacement project which is currently slated to begin in 2020.)

US 195 - Bridge Deck Repairs - Complete September 2018

  • As of Mar. 26, 2018, construction was underway at 4 locations with 3 sets of temporary signals 24/7.
  • N.A. Degerstrom, Inc. of Spokane Valley, WA was the prime contractor with a construction bid of $2,075,571.

Needs & Benefits

The contractor repaired and resurfaced five bridges on US 195, between Steptoe and Plaza.  The work extended the service life of the structure and provides a smooth driving surface.

Timeline

The project was completed in September 2018.

I-90 - Hamilton Westbound On-Ramp Deck Repair - Complete August 2019

Project news

The westbound Hamilton on-ramp to I-90 is now open to traffic.

There are no longer restrictions for oversized vehicles.

Needs & benefits

This project consists of deck repairs to the I-90, westbound ramp from I-90 to Hamilton Street and SR 290.  These bridges, opened in the early 1970's, cross Third Avenue and Second Avenue just east of downtown Spokane.  The bridge surfaces are in a state of disrepair requiring extensive maintenance.  This project will resurface the bridges providing a smoother roadway.

SR 31 - South of Metaline - Unstable Slope Repair - Complete October 2018

Awarded to Pile Contractors, Inc. of Issaquah, WA, with a construction bid of $685,703.

Needs & Benefits

The steep slope adjacent to SR 31 in the vicinity of MP 11.0 has historically had loose material slides that required lengthy highway closures.  This project constructed a soldier-pile debris containment wall to capture the active debris flows.

Timeline

All project work was physically complete on Oct. 12, 2018.

US 2 - I-90 to Euclid - Paving - Complete October 2018

Project news

Awarded to CPM Development Corporation/DBA Inland Asphalt of Spokane Valley with a construction bid of $4,046,000.  

Needs & benefits

This project consists of grinding out an existing layer of asphalt on Division Street, Ruby Street and Browne Street, then resurfacing with hot mix asphalt. The job includes some ADA sidewalk ramp improvements and other work.  When completed, the roadway surface will be smooth.

Timeline

All work was completed in October 2018.

US 2 - Pittsburgh Road Intersection/Closure & Cul-de-Sac - Complete April 2018

Project news

Awarded to Wm. Winkler Company of Spokane with a construction bid of $139,800.

Needs & benefits

Build a cul-de-sac where Pittsburgh Road meets US 2, eliminating access from the residential street to the highway.  Decreases non-residential traffic using the route as a shortcut and traveling next to neighborhood park.

Timeline

Construction was substantially completed on April 27, 2018. The Contractor will be back in October for final seeding.

2017 Eastern Region Chip Seal - Complete September 2017

Overview
Chip sealing preserves the integrity and life of deteriorating roadway by applying a Bituminous Surface Treatment (BST) seal coat of oil and gravel (chips) to the existing pavement. Restoration is necessary before the underlying road structure is damaged, requiring a much more expensive rebuild.

US 395 - US 195 Bridge Expansion Joint Replacement - Complete July 2017

Overview
Replaced failing expansion joints on the US 395/Little Spokane River bridge and the US 195/Pine Creek and BNSF bridges.

Eastern Region HMA Rumble Strips - Complete July 2017

Overview

Installed centerline rumble strips, edge line rumble strips, and durable striping in the following highway sections:

  • US 2/Milepost 306-315
  • US 395/Milepost 172-190
  • US 395/Milepost 231-241
  • SR 291/Milepost 6.33-13

Improves safety
Centerline rumble strips should reduce the number of crossover collisions.

I-90 - Viaduct & 3rd Avenue Bridge - Expansion Joints & Special Repairs - Complete July 2017

Overview
Bridge expansion joints, concrete approach panels, and bridge deck surface were repaired on eastbound and westbound Interstate 90 in and near downtown Spokane.

 

How you benefit

Improves safety
Years of deterioration has resulted in damaged pavement and joints at several locations on I-90. The frequent temporary repairs caused a rough roadway.

 

Partnerships & cooperation
WSDOT worked with the City of Spokane on traffic coordination.

 

US 395 - NSC - Spokane River to Francis - Grading - Complete July 2017

Overview
Project included curb & sidewalk work on city streets that are immediately adjacent to the NSC right of way. Drainage work was also included. Mainline freeway grading was not included at this time.

How you benefit

Relieves congestion
The overall NSC project creates a high-speed, north/south route through Spokane.

Economic incentive
Freight will move more efficiently.

SR 904 - Mullenix Rd to Betz Rd - Paving - Complete November 2017

Overview

State Route 904 was resurfaced with Hot Mix Asphalt from Mullenix Road, through downtown Cheney, to Betz Road.  Shamrock Paving of Spokane did the work with a construction bid of 1,624,312.

Economic Incentive

A smoother roadway and protection for the underlying highway structure preserves the public investment in the facility.

Partnerships and Cooperation

WSDOT worked closely with the City of Cheney on the project.

US 395 - Arden to Colville - Paving - Complete September 2018

Project news

US 395 was resurfaced with hot mix asphalt.  ADA sidewalk work was included.  Some minor corrective items remain.  Central Washington Asphalt of Moses Lake, WA handled the project with a construction bid of $3,491,873.

Needs & benefits

High traffic volumes with normal wear and tear had deteriorated the pavement surface. Resurfacing provides a better experience for drivers with a reduced need for repairs and patching.

SR 290 - Mission Ave to Sullivan Rd - Paving - Complete November 2017

Project news

SR 290, Trent Avenue was resurfaced from the Mission Ave. "Y" to Sullivan road. In addition, the bridge decks on the Spokane River Bridges near Pines Road were repaired and the eastbound SR 290/UPRR bridge deck was repaired.

Overview

SR 270 was resurfaced with Hot Mix Asphalt.  This included Davis Way, a short section of Grand Ave., Main Street, and Paradise Street.  Sidewalk curb ramps were constructed to federal ADA standards.
