Chinook Pass is open: WSDOT opened Chinook Pass on June 5. The highway will be restricted to one lane for a short distance, three miles east of the summit, due to a washout that undermined a portion of the roadway. Drivers will need to stop at the stop sign, check for oncoming traffic and proceed cautiously through the one lane.
Construction and maintenance
The following Washington State Department of Transportation projects may delay traffic in Asotin, Benton, Columbia, Franklin, Garfield, King, Kittitas, Walla Walla, Yakima and neighboring counties during this period. Motorists are encouraged to use caution when traveling in these areas and “Give ‘em a Brake” in construction zones. Please note: Many of these activities are subject to good weather conditions and schedules may change.

SR 129 - Region Chip Seal

The project improves SR 129 from Milepost 32.8 to Milepost 36.2 near Asotin. Work includes chip sealing, paving the roadway surface, updating guardrail and installing new highway signs.

Columbia Drive Bridge - US 395/16 Bridge Repair

US 395 to Columbia Drive: On Monday, July 21 and Tuesday, July 22, from 11 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., southbound US 395 to the Columbia Drive loop-ramp will be closed as WSDOT crews make repairs to the steel girders on the bridge.
SR 240 to Columbia Drive: On Monday, July 21 through Wednesday, July 23, from 6 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. lanes in both directions will be restricted or closed on SR 240, under the bridge to Columbia Drive while crews make repairs to the steel girders on the bridge. Drivers may experience minor delays.
Project Description:
This project will straighten steel girders on the US 395 bridge in Benton County after it was hit by a truck.
SR 221 - Prosser Hill to SR 22 - Paving

Project Description:
This project is located in Benton County located on SR 221. Improvements of a three mile section of roadway will include a chip seal followed with a lift of asphalt, updating guardrail, new signs, guide post, and recessed pavement markings.

I-90 Westbound, Denny Creek Viaduct Vicinity - Stabilize Slope

I-90 westbound, 1.5 miles west of Snoqualmie Pass: One lane of this section of I-90 will be closed to traffic 24 hours a day until the project is complete in October. Two of the three westbound lanes will be open to traffic. No delays or back ups are anticipated.
Project Description:
This project is located in King County on I-90, 1.5 miles west of Snoqualmie Pass on the westbound lanes. This slope stabilization project will include installation of rock bolts and dowels, removal of vegetation and debris, erosion control, pavement markings and other work.

I-90 eastbound: On Sunday, July 20 through Thursday, July 24, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., one eastbound lane at a time will be restricted as the contractor installs reflective lane markers and stripes between Exit 47 (Asahel Curtis/Denny Creek) and Exit 70 (Easton). No delays are anticipated.
Project Description:
This project will improve I-90 from Exit 47 (Asahel/Denny Creek) to Exit 70 (Easton) by installing recessed pavement markers and inset lane and edge stripes. The project will use various construction methods to test performance and durability of the pavement markings.

Project Description:
WSDOT will improve I-90 by providing a safer, more efficient six-lane freeway from Hyak to Keechelus Dam. Crews will also will straighten roadway curves, replace old pavement, and reduce rockfall and avalanche hazards. Wildlife and watershed structures will improve habitat conditions. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2010.

Project Description:
This project is located in Kittitas County on I-90 between Easton and Cle Elum at West Nelson Siding Exit 74, and at Golf Course Road Exit 78. This project will upgrade the entire interchange illumination system at both interchanges. This electrical rehabilitation project will consist of replacing the service, all light standards, conduit and conductors in the system.

US 12 / Naches River N. of Yakima – Stabilize Slopes

On Friday, July 18, through Sunday, July 27, from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m., US 12 will have single lane closures in the westbound direction of travel. There will also be right lane shoulder closures in the westbound direction after 3 p.m. No delays are expected.
Project Description:
This project will stabilize the slopes of the Naches River near the 16th Avenue interchange on US 12 from milepost 201.03 to 201.56. This project will redirect the river and revegetate the area in order to reduce the erosion to the highway foundation.
I-82/Selah Creek to Yakima – Paving

Project Description:
This project is located in Yakima County on I-82, beginning at the Twin Bridges at milepost 31 and continues on I-82 to and including the Selah Creek Bridges at milepost 24. This project will rehabilitate the existing mainline pavement on I-82 in both directions and will include the East Selah Road interchange and the Yakima Training Center Road interchange. Upgrades will also be made to the guardrail, signing, illumination system, and bridge expansion joints.

Intersection of SR 22 and First Avenue in Toppenish: On Monday, July 21, through Friday, July 25, drivers may experience lane closures in all directions during daylight hours. Drivers may experience minor slowdowns.
Intersection of US 97 and Fort Road: On Monday, July 21, through Friday, July 25, drivers may experience lane and shoulder closures during daylight hours. Drivers may experience minor slowdowns.
Intersection of US 97 and Branch Road: Starting Monday, July 21, a portion of US 97 between Toppenish and Wapato will be closed to do railroad crossing safety improvements. The closure will be 24 hours per day until the improvements are complete. This work is scheduled to be complete by Friday, July 25.
Northbound and southbound US 97: Starting Monday, July 21, traffic will be detoured onto Progressive Road and Olden Way Road, just west of Toppenish. All oversize loads are prohibited on the detour route. Due to the sharp turns associated with this detour, WSDOT is recommending northbound drivers consider using SR 22 through Toppenish to I-82 as an alternate route. WSDOT recommends southbound drivers use I-82 to Exit 50 and take SR 22 through Toppenish to connect with southbound US 97.
Project Description:
WSDOT and the contractor will build a new right turn and through lanes for Fort Road at the US 97 intersection, and upgrade the traffic signal at US 97 and Fort Road. Crews will upgrade the signal and turning radius for trucks at West First Avenue and SR 22 intersection, work on utilities and water mains, and repave the roadway. Crews will also improve the railroad crossing at US 97 and Branch Road by updating the overhead warning lights and improve the roadway at the crossing.
