VANCOUVER – The community around the St. Johns Interchange project on SR 500 asked for changes to construction-staging plans. The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is responding with a public meeting on Nov. 3 to present new construction options to local residents and business owners.
What: Public Meeting – SR 500 St. Johns Interchange
When: 3-4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 3
Where: WSDOT Southwest Region Headquarters, 11018 NE 51st Circle, Vancouver
Map and directions
At previous public meetings in September, attendees from the community voiced concerns about the project’s anticipated traffic impacts. Most concerns centered on the planned year-long closure of St. Johns Boulevard and resulting effects on local businesses.
“We went back to the drawing board to see if we could find a cost-effective solution to lessen impacts,” said WSDOT’s Acting Regional Administrator Bart Gernhart. “The next step is agreeing on something we can all live with during construction.”
The $57.4 million SR 500, St. Johns Blvd. Interchange project will add a new freeway-style interchange and bridge that will carry St. Johns over SR 500, improving safety and increasing mobility on both roadways.
