MCCLEARY – US 101 and SR 108 in Mason and Grays Harbor counties will be safer thanks to a project that installs 23 miles of centerline rumble strips starting Monday, June 29.

Motorists can expect pilot-car led, one-way, alternating traffic from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. along sections of US 101 and SR 108 for the next two weeks.

• Monday and Tuesday, June 29 and 30, crews begin installing the recessed pavement markers and rumble strips on SR 108 from Summit Road near McCleary in Grays Harbor County to Kamilche Lane near Shelton in Mason County.

• Wednesday through Thursday, July 1 and 2, crews start installing recessed pavement markers and rumble strips on US 101 in Cosmopolis at the C Street intersection and proceed south to the Pacific County line near Artic.

In observance of Independence Day, no work takes place July 3 – 5.

The same traffic impacts apply the week of July 6 – 10 when paint crews re-stripe the centerlines.

Centerline rumble strips are designed to alert drivers that they are crossing over into on coming traffic. Grooves or rows of raised pavement markers are placed perpendicular to the direction of travel. As a vehicle passes over the rumble strips, noise and vibration are produced to warn motorists to get back into their lane.
