HOQUIAM – Next week the Simpson Avenue Bridge undergoes a scheduled bi-annual inspection and tests of new equipment, resulting in intermittent and total closures:

  • Monday, March 9 – Four short-duration closures 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.
  • Tueday and Wednesday, March 10-11 – Bridge closed 9 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
  • Thursday and Friday, March 12-13 – Four short-duration closures 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Drivers can expect 15-minute delays Monday, Thursday and Friday and bridge closures Tuesday and Wednesday. The Riverside Bridge will be reconfigured to accommodate one lane of traffic in each direction during the complete closures.

The Simpson Avenue Bridge recently underwent a $9.2 million rehabilitation project that replaced electrical, mechanical and structural components of the bridge and bridge draw-span. Testing the equipment is imperative and provides information needed for future maintenance of the new operating system.
