BURLINGTON – Crews will open two new roads, turn on two new traffic signals and permanently close a major intersection along State Route 20 next week in Burlington.
Drivers should expect congestion and delays between 9 and 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, as crews complete the major traffic changes.
On Tuesday morning, crews will:
• Turn off the signal and permanently close access to/from SR 20 at the Peterson Road/Goldenrod Road intersection, just west of I-5.
• Permanently close Goldenrod Road between SR 20 and Andis Road.
• Turn on a new signal at Garrett Road and open a new section of road between SR 20 and Peterson Road.
• Turn on a new signal at Nevitt Road and open a new section of road between SR 20 and Goldenrod Road.
• Temporarily divert southbound I-5 on- and off-ramp traffic to Nevitt Road.

The construction funding for this $118 million project is helping sustain more than 550 jobs. This project will help relieve congestion and improve safety along five miles of SR 20 and at the heavily traveled I-5/SR 20 interchange.
Crews need dry weather to complete the striping at the two new traffic signals. If it rains, all traffic changes will be delayed and completed between 9 and 11 a.m. on the first dry weekday.
“This is a major milestone and a major change for drivers,” Engineering Manager Marco Foster said. “We are advising drivers to leave early or take alternate routes Tuesday morning and be alert for major changes along the highway near the I-5 interchange.”
With traffic temporarily diverted to Nevitt Road for southbound I-5 access, crews will be able to complete the new, elevated southbound I-5 on-and off-ramps.
