OLYMPIA - WSDOT Maintenance staff and Troopers from the Washington State Patrol were recognized by the Washington State Senate during a formal Senate session Friday, Feb. 20, with the reading and adoption of Senate Resolution 8634. The Senate resolution honors WSDOT and WSP for heroic efforts and tireless dedication in response to the December 2007 flood, December 2008 holiday snow storm and the January 2009 flood.
Responders representing WSDOT and WSP from all over the state were in the Senate chamber gallery receiving formal recognition and listening to the official reading of the unanimously approved resolution.
Nine senators took the time to testify in support of the resolution, communicating their gratitude and offering personal stories of appreciation of the Troopers and road workers.
Senator Chris Marr from Spokane commended the effort, saying that the citizens of Washington receive a high level of return in the money that they invest in the Washington State Patrol and Transportation Department. Senator Tim Sheldon from Potlatch expressed his thanks pointing out that when most people are taking care of their own families during a disaster, the members of WSDOT and WSP respond to the needs of others and the safety of our roads.
“So many times, we hear such negative things about DOT,” said Clarence Stancil, a heavy equipment operator in WSDOT’s Olympic Region. “It’s so great to be recognized and appreciated on such a grand scale for the good things we do,” he said.
