VANCOUVER – Motorists traveling both directions on I-5, SR 500, SR 503 and SR 14 can expect delays next week as crews work to replace damaged pavement markings. Periodic right-lane closures and rolling slowdowns will occur between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day. Motorists should expect 10- to 15-minute delays.
The striping was damaged by snow clearing efforts in December 2008. This work will replace striping in some of the highest-priority areas; other, similarly damaged striping and reflective markers will be replaced later this year.
Crews will stripe I-5 from NW La Center Road in northern Clark County (milepost 16) to the Lewis/Thurston County line (milepost 85) on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 2 and 3.
Striping work on SR 500 and SR 503 will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 4. Crews will replace striping on SR 500 at the St. Johns Boulevard intersection (milepost 1 to 1.3). On SR 503, striping will be replaced near where the highway intersects with Padden Parkway (milepost 0 to 1).
On Thursday, Feb. 5, crews will replace striping on SR 14 from I-5 to Columbia Shores Boulevard (milepost 0 to 1). Crews will also restripe three ramps in this section of SR 14. This work requires each ramp to be closed for approximately 10 minutes.
This work is highly weather sensitive and requires mild temperatures and dry pavement. Striping may be rescheduled if conditions warrant.
WSDOT would like to remind motorists to observe warning devices and not cross new pavements or freshly painted striping. According to the Revised Code of Washington, “no person shall ride or drive any animal, bicycle, or vehicle, across any newly made pavement or freshly applied markings on any highway when a sign, cone marker, or other warning device is in place warning persons not to drive across such pavement or marking.” (RCW 46.90.010. 94-01-082, § 308-330-412). The fine for driving in such zoned-off area is $86.
