Contractor crews will begin resurfacing work on Monday, May 5th on a section of State Route 25 in Stevens County. The work will be underway beginning at Bossburg Road., pass through the Town of Northport, and extend up to the Canadian border.
This paving project is a part of the Department’s pavement preservation program. The existing road surface is deteriorating as a result of routine wear and tear. The surface will replaced with a new layer of Hot Mix Asphalt.
This project will pave nearly 27 miles of the roadway. In addition, safety items such as guardrail, signing, and delineation will also be brought up to current standards. Minor drainage items will also be installed.
Minor work in some locations is scheduled to start on Monday with guardrail and drainage items underway through May. Pavement repair and grinding operations should start in June. After the grinding, drivers should be alert for grooved pavement. Major paving operation are planned to begin in mid-June and continue through July into early August.
During grinding and paving operations, motorists should expect single lane traffic directed by flaggers and pilot cars with possible delays up to 15 minutes at times.
The project should be fully completed by early August. As always, paving work is dependent on the weather. Wet, cool conditions may cause delays to the paving operations on this project.
Knife River of Colville, WA is the prime contractor on this project with a construction bid of $4.251 million.
