RIDGEFIELD – The Gee Creek Safety Rest Areas on I-5 in Clark County will be closed alternately between Monday, April 21 and Wednesday, April 30, announced the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). The rest areas are located on I-5 northbound and southbound just north of Exit 9 (SR 502 East/NE 179th Street/Battle Ground).

Southbound Gee Creek: Closed April 21 – 23
The southbound Gee Creek Safety Rest Area will be closed from 5:00 a.m. on Monday, April 21 to 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23.

Northbound Gee Creek: Closed April 28 – 30
The northbound Gee Creek Safety Rest Area will be closed from midnight on the morning of Monday, April 28 to 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 30.

The closures are necessary so that WSDOT crews can conduct annual maintenance work at the rest areas. The blue signs along I-5 alerting motorists to the Gee Creek Safety Rest Areas will be covered with “Closed” signs during the closure, and the on-ramps to the rest areas will be blocked with orange cones.

For southbound motorists, the next safety rest area after Gee Creek is located 14 miles south of Portland, Oregon. For northbound motorists, the next safety rest area after Gee Creek is the Toutle River Safety Rest Area, located near Exit 52 (Toutle Park Road/Barnes Drive) in Cowlitz County.
