SEATTLE – The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is seeking qualified contractors to finish the design and build the SR 519 Intermodal Access Project: Phase 2 – Atlantic Corridor. WSDOT has issued a request for qualifications (RFQ) to determine which companies are interested in completing this design-build project.

WSDOT is moving quickly on SR 519 design, with construction starting this fall. By using a design-build construction method, WSDOT will be able complete this project sooner than if a traditional design-bid-build model was used. Construction is scheduled for completion in late 2010 or early 2011. When complete, this project will help keep people and goods moving south of downtown during south end Alaskan Way Viaduct construction.

Please visit WSDOT’s contract ad and award Web pages for the project’s complete request for qualifications. After reviewing the submitted qualifications, WSDOT will issue the SR 519 request for proposals in late May 2008.

The SR 519 Intermodal Access Project team’s goal is to increase safety and mobility by improving connections between I-5, I-90 and the Seattle waterfront. WSDOT will make improvements to enhance driver and pedestrian safety as they travel to events, work, the waterfront and neighborhood destinations. Proposed improvements will benefit all travel modes from freight vehicles at the Port of Seattle’s terminals to ferry riders going to Colman Dock.

The SR 519 project is located on South Atlantic Street and South Royal Brougham Way between First Avenue South and I-5 near Qwest Field and Safeco Field. Please visit the project Web pages for more information.
