CHEHALIS – Beginning January 23, all vehicles with trailers over 10,000 pounds traveling north and southbound on I-5, between Rush Road (milepost 72) and 13th Street (milepost 76) will be temporarily limited to the left lane, announces the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). Advanced warning signs will be posted to direct trucks into the left lanes of the highway.
In an effort to preserve the aged and deteriorating asphalt on the shoulder of I-5 during construction, WSDOT will require all truck traffic to use the left lane through the I-5, Rush Road to 13th Street project limits. Limiting trucks to the left lane will cause less stress on the asphalt, ultimately preserving its life.
As construction continues, crews will widen four miles of I-5 near Chehalis and construct a new interchange on I-5 at LaBree Road. Trucks will be required to use the left lane within the project limits throughout the duration of the project or until staging conditions exist that allow truck traffic to return using the right lane. Construction is scheduled for completion in late 2009.
