BREMERTON – Maintenance work requires closing the Manette Bridge in Bremerton from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 22-23. Drivers can detour using the Warren Avenue Bridge.
A complete closure of the bridge during the maintenance operation is necessary because the 1930 structure is too narrow for traffic, equipment and the bridge crew to be on the roadway at the same time.
The Manette Bridge spans the Port Washington Narrows in Bremerton. A project to replace the bridge is currently in the design phase. Construction on the replacement bridge is expected to begin in 2010.
About 12,000 vehicles a day cross the Manette Bridge.
Motorists are encouraged to allow extra time for their commute during the closures, and can call 5-1-1 or visit http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/traffic for road and traffic updates.
