CHEHALIS – Starting Friday, December 14, motorists traveling on I-5 in the vicinity of Centralia will notice the speed limit return to 60 MPH, after a brief reduction to 50 MPH in light of the flood events that took place last week, cautions Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). The lowered speed limit is currently in effect between milepost 77 and milepost 83.75.

The lowered speed limit was put in effect on December 6, the day WSDOT reopened one lane of the highway to commercial vehicles, after enough flooding water receded. Because of the possible impacts to the wet roadway and to protect the workers cleaning the debris in the areas adjacent to the road, WSDOT kept the lowered speed limit for just over one week.

On December 14, motorists will notice the unveiled 60 MPH signs. WSDOT urges motorists to pay attention to the posted signs.
