EVERETT – On Nov. 5, WSDOT, Snohomish County and contractor Marshbank Construction Inc. started work to connect the 124th Street bicycle and pedestrian overpass to the Interurban trail in south Everett. Crews plan to work through the winter to have the trail open by spring 2008.

The start date was delayed as crews waited to receive the concrete panels for the retaining walls.

“We needed the walls to be built with unique specifications. The manufacturer has been overwhelmed with orders so we had to get in line with everyone else.” said Russ East, assistant regional administrator for King and Snohomish counties.

This week, drivers will see survey crews mapping out the project area before they install high visibility fencing. After clearing the area, crews will install the retaining walls, which fit together like a jigsaw puzzle.

WSDOT is constructing the trail on behalf of Snohomish County. Once complete, the new trail will safely carry pedestrians and bicyclists over Interstate 5 allowing them to continue on the 15 miles of the interurban trail.

This $2.7 million project was awarded to Marshbank Construction, Inc. More details are available on the project Web page: www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/I5/124thStreetOverpass/
