CANCELED -
This work has been canceled for Saturday night. Crews plan to reschedule the the complete northbound I-5 closure for Tuesday night, weather dependent.
EVERETT – Late night drivers heading north on Interstate 5 through Everett this weekend should plan a little extra time in their trips. If the weather is dry, crews working on the I-5 Everett HOV freeway expansion project will close northbound I-5 at SR 526 Saturday night.
Crews will begin closing lanes of northbound I-5 at 10 p.m. All lanes will be closed by 11:30 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 7 a.m. the following day.
Drivers will be detoured to SR 527, turn left onto SR 527 and its on-ramp to northbound I-5. The exit to SR 526 will remain open.
When this weekend’s work is complete drivers will notice a change in the way the right lane ends just north of SR 526 (see image below). Currently, the lane ends with a merge. If work goes as scheduled, on Sunday the lane will end as an ‘exit only’ lane at the Boeing Freeway. This change will improve safety by eliminating the need for two lanes of cars to merge into one lane.
This work is heavily weather dependent. If work is not completed Saturday night, crews will split the work into two weeknight closures. The first night will require a two lane closure and the second night will require a complete closure of northbound I-5. Crews will attempt to complete the work Monday and Tuesday nights, but will have to wait until the first two consecutive nights of good weather.

The I-5 Everett HOV freeway expansion project is on schedule to be complete by June 2008. When finished, drivers will have new HOV lanes in both directions and other improvements between SR 526 and the Snohomish River Bridge.
