RENTON – Next week, crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will perform surveys, electrical work, and excavate and grade the highway shoulder on SR 167; and conduct surveys on I-405. Construction closures affecting I-405 and SR 167 traffic in Renton and Tukwila the week of Oct. 13-20 include:
SR 167 Mainline
- Saturday night, Oct. 13, crews will close up to two southbound lanes on SR 167 between I-405 and S. 41st St. to perform electrical work, and excavate and grade along the right side of the roadway. The first lane will close at 10 p.m. and all lanes will reopen by 11 a.m. Sunday morning.
- Sunday through Thursday nights, Oct. 14–18, crews will close up to two southbound lanes on SR 167 between I-405 and S. 41st St. to install electrical lines and continue grading the roadway. Crews will close the first lane at 8 p.m. and will reopen all lanes by 6 a.m. each morning.
- Sunday through Thursday nights, Oct. 14-18, survey crews will close one northbound lane on SR 167 between S. 41st St. and I-405 beginning at 8 p.m. The northbound lane will reopen by 5 a.m. each morning.
I-405 Mainline
- Saturday through Thursday nights, Oct. 13 - Oct. 18, crews will close one lane in each direction of I-405 between the 61st Ave. S. overpass (just east of I-5) and the I-405/SR 169 Interchange, to conduct survey work.
- Saturday night, Oct. 13, crews will close one northbound lane beginning at 10 p.m. and one southbound lane beginning at 11 p.m. The southbound lane will reopen by 9 a.m. Sunday morning and the northbound lane will reopen by 10 a.m.
- Sunday evening, Oct. 14, through Thursday evening, Oct. 18, crews will close one southbound lane and one northbound lane to continue survey work. All lanes will close by 10 p.m. each night, reopening at 5 a.m. each morning.
The I-405 Renton Widening Project, officially known as the I-405/I-5 to SR 169 Stage 1 - Widening Project, is the first stage of improvements on I-405 between I-5 and State Route 169 (Maple Valley Highway). This work will help relieve congestion at one of the worst I-405 bottlenecks by adding lanes and improving merging conditions for the drive in and out of Renton and Tukwila.
