BELLEVUE – This weekend, crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will drive piles in the ground on the east side of I-405 at Coal Creek Parkway to begin building a wider bridge. Sunday through Thursday nights, crews will continue repairing pavement on northbound and southbound I-405 in South Bellevue; work to widen the Coal Creek Parkway bridge; prepare to build piers for the new bridge over I-90; and pave the 112th Ave NE on-ramp to northbound I-405.
Construction closures affecting I-405 drivers in Bellevue the week of Oct. 12 – 19 include:
I-405 Mainline
- Saturday, Oct. 13 and Sunday, Oct. 14, crews will close two northbound lanes on I-405 at Coal Creek Parkway at 5 a.m. each morning to begin widening the bridge. Between 5 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. only one lane will remain open to traffic. All lanes will reopen by 12:30 p.m. Without drivers’ help, traffic engineers expect backups on northbound I-405 from I-90 all the way to Renton with the worst congestion between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Drivers are advised to take alternate routes if possible.

The first lane will close at 8 p.m. each night, with up to three lanes closed by 11 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. each following morning.
- Sunday through Thursday nights, crews will close up to three southbound I-405 lanes from S.E. 8th Street to the I-90 overpass to repair pavement. The first lane will close at 8 p.m. each night, with up to three lanes closed by 11 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. each following morning.
- Sunday through Thursday nights, crews will close up to two northbound lanes from 112th Ave SE to the I-90 overpass to modify the overpass barrier. The first lane will close at 8 p.m., and the second at 11 p.m. All northbound lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. each following morning.
- Sunday through Thursday nights, crews will close the southbound HOV lane and one general purpose lane from I-90 to 112th Ave SE for electrical work. The first lane will close at 10 p.m., and the second lane at 11 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 6 a.m.
I-90 Mainline
- Monday through Thursday nights, crews will close the HOV lane on eastbound and westbound I-90 near I-405 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. each following morning for electrical work and construction on the new bridge over I-90.
