NASELLE – Crews have completed repairs to the water line at the SR 401, Dismal Nitch Rest Area. The rest area facilities have now reopened, announced the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).
Water to the sinks and fountains will remain off until results of a water sample are complete. Per health department requirements, a water sample must be submitted to them for testing before the water lines can be turned on. During this time, hand sanitizers will be available.
On Oct. 16, a major waterline broke, shutting down the facilities. The break in the waterline was located deep in the ground. With the assistance of a company specializing in difficult to find leaks, crews found the leak, excavated the line and determined the extent of the damage. Specialty parts were ordered and crews were able to repair the line this morning.
The Dismal Nitch Rest Area is located one mile east of the Astoria - Megler Bridge on SR 401.
