I-405 Construction Updates in Kirkland Sept. 21-28

KIRKLAND – Next week crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation plan to pave and stripe the roadway and ramps between NE 85th and NE 124th Streets. Construction closures affecting I-405 traffic in Kirkland the week of September 21-28 include:

I-405 Mainline

  • Friday, September 21 crews will close the two far-right southbound lanes from NE 85th to NE 116th Streets from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. to pave the roadway and build an ecology embankment above Forbes Creek.
  • Saturday and Sunday, crews will close the far right lane in each direction between NE 85th and NE 116th Street beginning at 6 a.m. Saturday around the clock until early Monday morning. During the closure crews will install signs and stripe the roadway. All northbound lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. Monday morning. All southbound lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday morning.
  • Saturday through Friday nights, crews will close up to three southbound lanes from NE 85th to NE 116th Streets to finish paving and striping the roadway. Crews will close lanes:
    • Saturday through Thursday nights beginning at 7 p.m. each night with up to three lanes closed by midnight. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. each following morning; and
    • Friday, Sept. 28 beginning at 9 p.m. with up to three lanes by midnight. All lanes will reopen by 7 a.m. Saturday.
  • Sunday through Friday nights, crews will close up to three northbound lanes from NE 85th to NE 116th Streets to finish paving and striping the roadway. Crews will begin closing lanes at 9 p.m. each night with up to three lanes closed by midnight. All lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. each following morning.
  • Monday through Thursday nights, crews will close one right lane in each direction between NE 85th and NE 124th Streets to stripe the roadway. The northbound lane will close between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. and the southbound lane will close between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Monday through Friday, drivers should expect daily closures of the northbound and southbound HOV lanes except during rush hours while crews work on the new HOV ramps north of the NE 128th Street bridge.
  • This week, drivers should expect daytime closures of the far right lane in both directions between NE 85th and NE 116th Streets except during rush hours while crews install signs and stripe the roadway.

I-405/ NE 85th Street Interchange

  • Friday, September 21 crews will close the southbound off-ramp to NE 85th Street from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. to pave the roadway. Drivers should look for and follow detour signs on I-405 and local streets.
  • Monday through Friday nights, crews will close the southbound off-ramp to NE 85th Street to reconfigure the ramp. Drivers should look for and follow detour signs on I-405 and local streets. Crews will close the off-ramp:
    • Monday through Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.; and
    • Friday night from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
  • Monday through Friday nights, crews will close the northbound on-ramp from NE 85th Street to stripe the ramp. Drivers should look for and follow detour signs on I-405 and local streets. Crews will close the on-ramp:
    • Monday through Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.; and
    • Friday night from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.

I-405/NE 116th Street Interchange

  • Friday September 21, and Sunday through Friday nights, crews will close the southbound on-ramp from NE 116th Street to pave the ramp. Drivers should look for and follow detour signs on I-405 and local streets. Crews will close the on-ramp:
    • Friday, Sept. 21 and Friday, Sept 28 from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.; and
    • Sunday through Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Thursday and Friday nights, crews will close the northbound off-ramp to NE 116th Street to pave and stripe the ramp. Drivers should look for and follow detour signs on I-405 and local streets. Crews will close the off-ramp:
    • Thursday night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.; and
    • Friday night from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.

I-405/NE 124th Street Interchange

  • Saturday and Thursday nights, crews will close the northbound off-ramp to NE 124th Street from 9 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. each following morning to pave the off-ramp. Drivers should look for and follow detour signs on I-405 and local streets.

Kirkland streets affected by I-405 construction

  • Monday through Thursday nights, crews will close NE 116th Street where it passes under I-405 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. to modify traffic signals, install traffic loop detectors and pave the roadway. Drivers should look for and follow detour signs on I-405 and local streets.
  • Monday through Thursday nights, crews will close the right lane of westbound NE 85th Street. The lanes will be closed from 9 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. each following morning while crews conduct surveying work and cut pavement for reconfiguration of the NE 85th Street interchange.
