HOQUIAM – The drive on southbound US 101 in Hoquiam will be out of the ordinary Sunday as crews close the Simpson Avenue Bridge for inspection work.

During the closure, drivers will detour onto the Riverside Bridge, which will temporarily have one lane of traffic in each direction.

Crews will perform a full inspection using the under bridge inspection truck (UBIT). The Simpson Avenue Bridge undergoes a full inspection every two years and a “walk around” inspection annually.

The closure begins at 6a.m. and crews expect to be off the bridge by 3 p.m.

Crews will use this detour route again in early January when the Simpson Avenue Bridge closes for three months. During the three-month closure, crews will repair and replace electrical, mechanical and structural components on the bridge.

Drivers can call 5-1-1 or visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/traffic/ for road and traffic updates.
