OLYMPIA – Transportation in and around the greater Wenatchee area will be the topic of discussion when the Washington State Transportation Commission meets there next week. Commission members will join city, county, state and transit officials at the Red Lion Hotel, Wenatchee Room, 1225 North Wenatchee Avenue, in Wenatchee on Tuesday, September 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is a community outreach meeting and the public is invited to attend.

The meeting will consist of a series of panel discussions and short presentations about current activities, future plans and needs for transportation at the local, regional and state level. Representatives of the City of Wenatchee, East Wenatchee and Rock Island will share with the Commissioners their perspective of local transportation challenges and needs. Panelists will also discuss transit, economic development and transportation funding as they relate to the metropolitan Wenatchee area. On the state level, Assistant Region Administrator Dan Sarles from the Washington State Department of Transportation’s North Central Region will describe highway and bridge projects planned for the Wenatchee area.

At 1 p.m., members of the legislative Joint Transportation Committee will join in for the remainder of the Commission’s meeting. Community members will have an opportunity to address both parties during a public comment period scheduled for 2 p.m. At 2:45 p.m., the Transportation Commission will begin a tour of local area projects.

The Washington State Transportation Commission holds several meetings throughout the state each year to gain insight from local government, industry and citizens about transportation issues that affect their communities and region. This information helps the Commission to develop and implement a vision for transportation that reflects the policies, plans and priorities of the people of the State of Washington.
