GIG HARBOR – WSDOT is studying State Route (SR) 302 from Key Peninsula Highway to SR 16 and wants your input. The study evaluates the environmental impacts of widening the existing roadway or creating a new corridor to ease congestion and enhance motorist safety.

For this study to be successful, input from the people who depend on SR 302 is particularly important. The upcoming public meeting provides an opportunity to learn more about the study, talk with project staff, and share comments and concerns. WSDOT hopes to see you there:

Tuesday, September 25, 2007
4:30 to 7:30 p.m. (presentations at 4:45 and 6:15 p.m.)
Peninsula High School Commons
14105 Purdy Dr NW, Gig Harbor

SR 302 is an important east-west link for many Key Peninsula residents and communities. Regional population growth increases concern about the corridor’s future. WSDOT’s study focuses on developing a solution to improve both traffic flow and safety on SR 302, as well as determine the environmental impacts to the area.

WSDOT began conducting the first of two phases of this study in July, 2007. Phase 1 involves developing a clear problem definition and a range of project alternatives, including improvements to the existing SR 302 corridor or new corridor alignments. Phase 2 of the environmental study gets underway in January, 2008, and includes the screening process for – and selection of – a preferred project alternative. WSDOT expects to complete the study in three to five years.

WSDOT will keep the community informed about the progress of the study through a series of public meetings, local media, and the project website: www.wsdot.wa.gov/projects/sr302/newcorridor.
