TACOMA – A paving operation will reduce I-5 southbound to two lanes in Tacoma tonight.

Crews will close the two right-hand lanes of southbound I-5 from the vicinity of the Puyallup River Bridge to McKinley Avenue beginning at 10 p.m. Crews will be off the roadway tomorow by 5 a.m.  All work is weather dependent.

During tonight’s paving operation, crews will also close the on-ramps from River Road/SR 167 and Portland Avenue to southbound I-5. Both on-ramps will be closed for a short duration of time. Crews will reopen the River Road/SR 167 ramp as soon as possible.

These ramp closures change a detour for motorists wishing to access 38th Street/Westbound SR 16 from northbound I-5.

Beginning tonight through Wednesday, crews will close the off-ramp from I-5 northbound to 38th Street/Westbound SR 16. The ramp will close at 10 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. the following morning.

Motorists wishing to access 38th Street/Westbound SR 16 will be detoured by exiting onto I-705 to SR 509 and then onto southbound I-5 where they can exit to 38th Street or westbound SR 16.

Drivers can call 5-1-1 or visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/trafic/ for road and traffic updates.
