INDEX – Crews have completed the clean up and repairs on US 2 east of Index after a semi-truck left the road at 10:30 p.m. last night.

They worked for nearly 15 hours to recover the semi truck and its trailer full of apples from the Skykomish River and reopen the busy mountain pass. Crews used a class C tow and low-boys to pull the cab and trailer up the nearly 150-foot embankment.

At 10:30 p.m. last night, a semi truck loaded with apples left the road at milepost 39, between Index and Baring roughly 25 miles of the Stevens Pass summit. The vehicle went up and over the concrete barrier and dropped down a steep embankment and came to rest in the Skykomish River.

WSDOT thanks drivers for their patience during this long closure.
