KIRKLAND – Next week crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will work on reconstructing the I-405 median and city streets near the freeway, install new drains and landscaping, and continue repairs on the HOV ramps. Construction closures affecting I-405 traffic in Kirkland the week of March 30 – April 6 include:
I-405 Mainline
• Expect daily closures of the northbound and southbound HOV lanes except during rush hours while crews demolish portions of the new HOV ramps north of the NE 128th Street bridge. WSDOT is repairing a structural problem in the construction of the ramps before the ramps open to traffic. For more information, please visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/i405/TotemLake/ramps.
• Monday through Friday, drivers should expect closures of the right lane in each direction between NE 85th and NE 116th streets while crews landscape and finish building a noise wall. Northbound, the right lane will close at 6 a.m. and reopen at 1 p.m. (noon on Friday). Southbound, the right lane will close at 10 a.m. and reopen at 4 p.m. (noon on Friday).
• Monday through Thursday nights, drivers should expect closures of up to three lanes in each direction near NE 116th Street while crews reconstruct the median and install drains. Northbound, the first lane will close at 9 p.m. each night with up to three lanes closed by 12 a.m. All northbound lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. each following morning. Southbound, crews will close the first lane at 7 p.m. each night with up to three lanes closed by 11 p.m. All southbound lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. each following morning.
I-405/NE 85th Street interchange
• NEW - Tuesday and Wednesday nights, crews may close the southbound exit to westbound NE 85th Street and the right lane of westbound NE 85th Street near I-405 between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. to excavate the drainage system and roadway. Signs on I-405 and local streets will provide detour route information.
• NEW - Wednesday and Thursday nights, crews may close the northbound on-ramp from westbound NE 85th Street between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. to make drainage improvements. Signs on I-405 and local streets will provide detour route information.
Kirkland streets affected by I-405 construction
• NEW - On Monday April 2, the NE 128th Street bridge will open in a limited configuration to vehicle and pedestrian traffic between 116th Avenue NE and Totem Lake Boulevard.
• NEW – On Monday, April 2, 116th Avenue NE will reopen from NE 128th Street north to the Kingsgate Park-and-Ride.
• NEW - On Tuesday April 3, crews will close 116th Avenue NE from NE 128th Street south to McDonalds for up to six months.
