EVERETT – Starting this Friday night, crews working for WSDOT will close the southbound I-5 exit to 41st Street in Everett. Construction crews will use the weekend to put the final touches on work that aligns the ramp to fit with the new 41st Street/I-5 interchange.

  • Starting at 10 p.m. Friday, March 30 until 5 a.m. Monday, April 2 the southbound I-5 exit to 41st Street in Everett will be closed. The 41st Street Bridge and up to two lanes of southbound I-5 will also be closed at night over the weekend. All lanes of southbound I-5, the ramp to 41st and the bridge will be open by 4 a.m. Monday morning.

When the ramp reopens on Monday drivers will notice a smoother transition from the freeway to 41st St. Drivers exiting at 41st St. will be able to turn left onto the bridge for the first time since the bridge opened to traffic on February 19. The new ramp is the third of four completed ramps that will make up the new I-5/41st Street interchange controlled by a single signal in the center of the bridge. The fourth ramp, from 41st St. to southbound I-5 will be complete by the end of 2007.

The 41st St. interchange improvements are one part of a $263 million dollar project to improve the flow of traffic through the city of Everett. By summer 2008, drivers will have new HOV lanes in each direction that run from just south of SR 526 to just south of the Snohomish River Bridge. Drivers will also have an additional general purpose lane in each direction between 41st St. and US 2.
