KIRKLAND – Washington State Department of Transportation crews plan to continue noise wall construction on the east side of Interstate 405 and will be restriping lanes and installing signs on the highway in Kirkland next week.
Construction closures affecting I-405 traffic the week of Jan. 26 - Feb. 2 include:
Interstate 405 mainline
- NEW – Crews will close one lane in each direction between NE 85th Street and NE 116th Street Monday, January 29 through Friday, February 2 to install signs. Northbound closures will be between 5 a.m. and 2 p.m., southbound closures between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
- NEW – Drivers should expect overnight closures of up to three lanes in each direction near NE 116th Street between Monday, January 29 and Friday, February 2 while crews restripe lanes. Southbound, crews will close the first lane as early as 7 p.m., and will reopen all lanes by 5 a.m. the following morning. Northbound, crews will close the first lane as early as 9 p.m., and reopen all lanes by 6 a.m. the following morning. Crews will not close lanes in both directions simultaneously. This work is weather dependent.
- NEW – Drivers can expect northbound and southbound HOV lane closures between NE 124th and NE 132nd streets on Monday and Tuesday so crews can remove shoulder barriers. Crews will not close lanes during rush hours.
Kirkland streets affected by I-405 construction:
- On Jan. 8, crews closed the intersection of 116th Avenue NE and NE 128th Street to rebuild the roadway to match the height of the new NE 128th Street Bridge. The intersection will remain closed for up to eight weeks (possibly longer if poor weather affects construction progress). More information and a detour route are available at www.wsdot.wa.gov/projects/i405/TotemLake/construction.
All of these closures are necessary for crews to perform work associated with WSDOT’s Kirkland Nickel Improvement project and Sound Transit’s Totem Lake Freeway Station project. For more information or to sign up for e-mail updates, visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/projects/i405.
