BOTHELL – For the third time, WSDOT is rescheduling work to set two more girders for a pedestrian bridge over Interstate 405 in Bothell. This work, requiring a total overnight closure of all northbound lanes, is now scheduled for this weekend. The girder setting was originally scheduled for Tuesday night, but weather and equipment problems have caused multiple postponements.
On Saturday night, Jan. 13, crews will close all northbound lanes of I-405 at SR 527. Crews will also need to close the southbound HOV lane after 7 p.m. to position equipment for the girder setting. Two southbound I-405 lanes will remain open throughout the night. The northbound HOV lane and the adjacent northbound general-purpose lane will close at 11 p.m., and all northbound lanes will be closed by midnight. Traffic will be detoured off the freeway on the northbound I-405 ramp to SR 527, and will re-enter northbound I-405 on the on-ramp from southbound SR 527.
After crews finish setting the first girder they will reopen the northbound mainline, and then they will close the northbound I-405 off-ramp to SR 527. The ramps from SR 527 to northbound I-405 will remain open. Northbound drivers wishing to exit I-405 at SR 527 will follow a signed detour north on I-405 and I-5, turn around at 164th Street SW and head back south. All I-405 lanes and ramps will reopen by 9 a.m. Sunday.
This work is associated with Sound Transit’s I-405 Bothell/Canyon Park Freeway Station Project, designed and built by WSDOT. A covered pedestrian bridge over the freeway will provide access from the Canyon Park Park-and-Ride to a new bus stop on the southbound I-405 on-ramp from northbound SR 527. The new transit stop will allow southbound buses to avoid the existing circuitous route through congested city streets to access the Canyon Park Park-and-Ride. The improvements will save transit users up to five minutes per trip. For more information, please visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/i405/CanyonPark.
