KELSO – A pavement marking project along portions of I-5 in Cowlitz and Lewis counties, and I-205 in Clark County is scheduled to begin July 5. Motorists should expect some traffic impacts, including nighttime lane closures in the project area, as well as possible daytime single lane closures. WSDOT recently awarded this construction contract to Apply-a-Line, Inc. of Pacific, Wash. who submitted the winning bid of $374,550.
Crews will remove worn pavement markings along sections of I-5 and I-205 by grinding off the existing markings. Crews will then replace centerline striping and install new raised pavement marking buttons.
The work will take place on I-5 in the Castle Rock area (mileposts 49.45-50.94), in Lewis County just south of Napavine (mileposts 63.49-72.81) and in Centralia (mileposts 81.30 to 83.26). In Clark County, pavement marking work will take place on I-205 between the Glenn Jackson Bridge and NE 63rd Street. This project will begin at the north end of the project area on I-5, and move south as work progresses, ending in the Clark County area. Construction is scheduled for 37 working days, dry weather permitting.
During construction, motorists should expect lane closures in the project area. At least two lanes will remain open during daytime hours, and one lane will remain open at night. Construction will take place Monday through Friday. Additional traffic impacts will be made available as they are scheduled. For weekly updates on this and all other state traffic impacts in the region, please visit the WSDOT Southwest Region Weekly Travel Advisory Web page: www.wsdot.wa.gov/Regions/SouthWest/Construction/default.htm.
For more information about the I-5 and I-205 Pavement Marking project, please contact WSDOT’s Kelso Area Engineering Office by phone (800-545-1393), by e-mail (swKelso@wsdot.wa.gov).
Advance warning signs will be placed ahead of the construction area, and motorists are asked to observe and adhere to the posted speed limits when driving through the work zone. Motorists are also reminded that all traffic fines are doubled within a construction work zone when workers are present (RCW 46.61.527).
