Sea/BI/Brem - Overflow vehicle holding pattern at Colman Dock
Because of the SR-99 Tunnel and Elliott Bay Seawall projects, please be advised that on busy travel days this summer—particularly Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings—drivers departing the Seattle ferry terminal may need to use an on-street ferry holding lane when Colman Dock’s holding area reaches capacity. Be prepared to see uniformed police officers stationed at certain intersections to direct traffic.

  • Northbound drivers will be directed to the holding lane, which runs on southbound Alaskan Way.
  • Left turns from northbound Alaskan Way at Yesler Way will be limited to freight, motorcycles and vanpools only.

A map with the holding lane can be found at Colman Dock access.

Travelers should prepare for additional congestion along Alaskan Way and nearby streets as drivers adjust to the new configuration. Drivers headed to Bainbridge Island and Bremerton or dropping off passengers should arrive well ahead of scheduled sailing times or consider traveling during off-peak times.

If you have any questions or concerns about the ferry holding lane, please contact or call the program hotline at 1-888-AWV-LINE (298-5463). If you have questions about Elliott Bay Seawall Project construction, email or call 206-618-8584.

Faunt/Va/SW - Seattle Public Utilities Working on Pump Station
Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is performing improvements to the existing pump station facility located along the Fauntleroy Ferry Terminal. Work will begin March 21 and take about four months. Anticipated work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, with one ferry traffic lane closed between the hours of 9:00 am and 3:00 pm. The parking lot near the entrance of the terminal will be closed during construction for staging. For more information, call SPU Project Manager Grace Manzano at (206) 233-1534.

Sea/Brem/BI - Colman Dock – All Vehicles Over 30-Feet Exit at Yesler Way
The existing Marion Street exit is closed and a temporary exit between Marion and Madison streets closer to the fire station is open. This change requires trucks and vehicles over 30-feet in length to use the Yesler Way exit because the turn radius at the new, temporary exit north of Marion Street is not wide enough for vehicles longer than 30 feet. The temporary exit changes are needed to make room for on-going Seawall Project construction adjacent to Colman Dock. Map.
