Alerts:

  • 8/13: Half of the width of the Spokane River is now accessible at the East Trent River Bridge
  • 8/17 - 8/20: Nightly closures of westbound I-90 at SR 902 from 9 pm to 5 am. During the closure, traffic will be routed off of I-90 on the westbound off ramp and back onto I-90 using the westbound on ramp. There will also be single lane closure on SR 902 north of I-90 between the hours of 6 pm and 6 am.
  • 9/1 - 9/22: SR 231 between the town of Valley (MP71.9) and the junction of US 395 (MP 75.15) will fully close to the traveling public for crews to repair damage to the roadway. 

2019 Eastern Region Chip Seal
Highway: SR 20, 26 Region: Eastern County: Ferry, Stevens, Pend Oreille, Adams, and Whitman
Description: Crack seal, prelevel areas, pavement repair areas, bridge deck repair, rumble strips, and guardrail.

  • Work Schedule: The bituminous surface treatment (BST) repair from last year is complete. New repair work is needed and will be scheduled.

2020 Eastern Region Chip Seal
Highway: US 2, US 395/I-90 Interchange, SR 20, SR 270, SR 23, SR 27, SR 231 Region: Eastern County: Lincoln, Stevens, Spokane, Pend Oreille, Whitman & Adams
Description: Construction of Bituminous Surface Treatment (BST), removing existing overlay from bridge decks, bridge deck repair, waterproof membrane, planing bituminous pavement, crack sealing, Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) for pavement repair, pre-level. Crushed Surfacing Base Course (CSBC), Crushed Surfacing Top Course (CSTC), centerline rumble strips, fog seal, pavement markings, guardrail, guideposts, traffic control.

  • Work Schedule: Work to install the prjoect wide Construction Signing will continue this week. Work in Wilbur, WA (Section 1), Harrington, WA (Section 2), Rockward, WA (Section 3), south of Springdale, WA (Section 4), and Pullman, WA (Section 10) have all begun with various work activities.

  • Section 5 - US 395 (MP 172.43 to 177.31) - No work planned this week. Shoulder rock work 8/27 to 8/31. Drivers should be alert for flaggers and/or pilot cars directing single-lane, alternating traffic with some delays when work is underway.

2020 Eastern Region Strategic Pavement Preservation 
Highway: US 395, SR 902, SR 25, SR 231, SR 211 Region: Eastern County: Adams, Lincoln, Pend Oreille, Spokane, Stevens
Description: Strategic maintenance on various State Routes within Eastern Region, where the pavement is in poor condition, to preserve the roadways. Activities will include crack sealing and pavement repair.

  • Work Schedule: Work complete on SR 25 Davenport to Fruitland, MP 0.0 to 38.1; SR 902 I-90 to Medical Lake, MP 0.0 to 5.5; US 395 Coulee to I-90, MP 81.9 to 94.9. Working on US 395 Hafer Rd. to Chewelah, MP 202.7 to 260.7; working on SR 211 US 2 to Jct. 20, MP 0.0 to 15.2.. Monday - Friday 7 am - 4:30 pm; single lane closures.

Adams

US 395/Franklin Co Line to Lee Rd SB Lanes - Paving
Highway:
US 395 Region: Eastern County: Adams  Location: MP 61.24 to MP 72.36 (SR 26 MP 60.80 to MP 61.58)
Description: Rehabilitates 11.1 miles of the existing asphalt pavement on US 395 by grinding and placing 0.15 foot depth of asphalt on the driving lanes and shoulders.  Rehabilitates 0.8 miles of the existing asphalt pavement on SR 26 by grinding and placing 0.15 foot depth of asphalt on the driving lanes.  (45 working days)

  • Work Schedule: Grinding and paving of US 395 complete. Striping, rumble strips and guideposts remain. Work schedule: Monday - Thursday 6 am - 6 pm; single lane closures.

Ferry

SR 21 - West Fork Sanpoil Bridge Replace Structure (MP 145.6)
Highway: SR 21 Region: Eastern County: Ferry Location: MP 145.6
Description: Earthwork, removing and relocating the temporary Bailey Bridge, removing the existing bridge and installing a new bridge with wing walls, paving with HMA, stream channel excavation and in water stream work, rock and boulder placing, woody material placing and other items.

  • Work Schedule: Work on the bridge commenced the week of June 8th, including rebar and concrete placement. Backfilling of both bridge ends will be taking place when the concrete reaches the design strength. The Contractor will continue working on the bridge deck, approach slabs, and the barrier.  The approach slabs on both ends of the bridge are being formed and rebar is being tied, the concrete placement will take place this week on two separate dates.

Spokane

I-90 - Barker Road Interchange Improvement

Description: Construct a roundabout at each of the eastbound and westbound ramp terminals (55 working days)

  • Work Schedule: 
    • Crews on Monday, Aug. 10, at 5 a.m. closed the westbound I-90 on and off-ramp to Barker Road. Barker Road is also closed at the south end of the overpass to Boone Road. During this time the eastbound I-90 on-ramp are also closed. Crews have closed the intersection and Barker Road for 15 days in order to construct a new roundabout. Traffic for businesses on Cataldo Avenue are being routed via Boone via a temporary road west of Harley-Davidson. The intersection will reopen on Aug. 24, at 6 p.m.
    • At 6 p.m. on Aug. 25, crews will close the eastbound I-90 on and off-ramps and Barker Road to construction the second roundabout at the intersection. The closure is anticipated to run until 6 p.m. on Sept. 4.

I-90 - Medical Lake/SR 902 Interchange Improvements (MP 272.81)
Highway: I-90/SR 902 Region: Eastern County: Spokane Location: MP 272.81
Description: Reconstruction of the intersections at the eastbound and westbound ramp terminals. This will replace the current intersections with roundabouts. Replacement and relocation of the intersection of SR 902 and Geiger Blvd. with a roundabout. Construction of a new bridge structure parallel to the existing overpass at I-90.

  • Work Schedule:  Nightly closures of westbound I-90 from 9 pm to 5 am Monday 8/17 through Thursday 8/20. During the closure, traffic will be routed off of I-90 on the westbound off ramp and back onto I-90 using the westbound on ramp. There will also be single lane closures on SR 902 north of I-90 between the hours of 6 pm and 6 am for the application of permanent striping in the roadway and roundabouts. Installation of curbing, signage, and electrical is ongoing. Installation of drainage structures and earthwork on the new connection to the STA West Plains Transit Center is ongoing. Construction of temporary lanes to bypass traffic around the roundabout construction area during the construction of the roundabout is ongoing as well.

I-90 - Salnave Rd to BNSF RR Bridge - Paving

Description: Rehabilitates 4.3 miles of the existing asphalt pavement by grinding and placing 0.15 foot depth of asphalt on the driving lanes.  (17 working days)

  • Work Schedule:  All contract work is complete, minor punch list items remain. The project is on suspension waiting for the contractor's plan for bump repair. The 60mph speed limit restriction has been lifted.

I-90 - Sprague Ave I/C to Argonne Rd I/C - Paving

Description: Rehabilitates 4.3 miles of the existing asphalt pavement by grinding and placing 0.15 foot depth of asphalt on the driving lanes.

  • Work Schedule: Work is continuing on bridge decks, rut repairs HMA (hot mix asphalt) pre-leveling, and HMA paving. Hours of work are Sunday - Thursday 7pm - 6am.  Expect delays during the overnight hours with completion in early October 2020.

I-90 - US 2 Garden Springs to Broadway Ave - Ramp Meters (MP 279.79 to 282.54)

Description: This project improves various I-90 ramps by furnishing and installing: ITS ramp meters and other ITS components, constructing foundations for ITS standards, pavement markings, permanent signing, bridge-mounted sign brackets, traffic curb, concrete barrier, guardrail and guardrail anchors, irrigation system repairs, seeding and fertilizing.

  • Work Schedule: Daytime work Monday - Thursday 7am - 5pm. Crews continue to make progress at all ramps. At Brown, crews are installing underground and above ground conduit, j-boxes and foundations. At Division Street, crews continue to install underground and above ground conduit, j-boxes, and the cabinet foundations.

North Spokane Corridor-US 395/Freya Structures (MP 162)
Highway: US 395 Region: Eastern County: Spokane Location: NSC MP 162
Description: Construct two mainline freeway bridges over Freya Street.

North Spokane Corridor-US 395/Columbia to Freya (MP 161.1 to 162.3)
Highway: US 395 Region: Eastern County: Spokane Location: MP 161.1 to 162.3
Description: Construct mainline NSC from Freya to Columbia. The contractor received test results for the contaminated material and has determined an area of removal. Concrete paving has been completed, including all ramps. The contaminated soil has been removed and the Department of Ecology has approved the backfill process to take place.  The north roundabout on Freya has been striped per plan with yellow chevrons.

North Spokane Corridor-US 395/NSC BNSF 2nd Railroad Realignment

Description: Construction of two railroad structures, BNSF shoofly, retaining walls, clearing, and grubbing, roadway excavation and embankment, HMA paving, installing curb and sidewalk plus utility work.

  • Work Schedule: Crews will continue filling in the mainline T-wall and at the ESL bridge. Crews will continue mainline embankments, contaminated material, concrete demo, install dry well, excavate pond south of Brigeport, concrete removal and prep at Garnet, set, survey and pourt center columns of ESL bridge, set T-Walls on ESL, rebar and pour for abutments on mainline, build snap tie walls on mainline structure. Mon-Fri 6 am - 6 pm. Wellesley Avenue closed.

SR 290 Spokane River E. Trent Bridge - Replace Bridge (MP 0.74 to 0.95)
Highway: SR 290 Region: Eastern County: Spokane Location: MP 0.74 to MP 0.95
Description: This project will remove and replace the existing bridge along with full-depth roadway reconstruction, utility adjustments, and upgrades, illumination, infiltration pond grading, stormwater upgrades, cement concrete ramps, and traffic island construction.

  • Work Schedule: August 13: access to half of the width of the river opened at the East Trent Bridge; signs have been posted. The East Trent Bridge closed on Monday, June 1 at 7:30 pm. Work scheduled Monday - Thursday 5 am - 3:30 pm

US 195 - Install Shoulder Rumble Strip

Whitman

PCC Railroad Structure Rehabilitation and Replacement
Highway: Near US 195 Region: Eastern County: Spokane & Whitman 
Description: Rehabilitate bridges at MP 10.5 & 28.4, replace bridge at MP 29.48 and replace bridge at MP 23.89 with a culvert. This project involves roadway excavation, embankment compaction, scour repair and temporary stream diversion, driving steel piles, timber stringers, railroad ballast, treated timber superstructure and steel superstructure.

  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 10 hr/day. The track bridge shut down will not affect vehicular traffic.

PV Hooper Track Improvements
Highway: Near SR 26 Region: Eastern County: Adams & Whitman 
Description: Hooper railroad line at MP 25.79 to 41.60. This project replaces ties, rail, and OTM, places ballast, track and restores ditches.

Washington State Rural Rail Rehabilitation
Highway: Near SR 26, US 2, US 195 Region: Eastern County: Lincoln & Whitman
Description: Improves three branches of the PCC Railway System. The Hooper Branch consists of replacing ties, placing ballast, surfacing, ditching, surfacing turnouts, and crossing rehabilitation. The CW Branch consists of replacing ties, placing ballast, surfacing, rail and OTM replacement, rehabilitation, and replacement of turnouts and crossings. The P&L Branch consists of replacing ties, placing ballast, surfacing, replace crossing and surfacing turnouts, rehabilitation of two timber structures, and replacing eight structures.
