Project Delivery

Alternative Project Delivery

  • Design Build
Design-build is a method of project delivery in which WSDOT executes a single contract with one entity (the Design-Builder) for design and construction services to provide a finished product.
  • A+B Bidding
A+B bidding is a method of rewarding a contractor for completing a project as quickly as possible. By providing a cost for each working day, the contract combines the cost to perform the work (A component) with the cost of the impact to the public (B component) to provide the lowest cost to the public.
  • Lane Rentals
Lane Rental is used to minimize the impacts of a project on the traveling public. It is a method of transferring the roadway user costs to the contractor. The contractor must rent a lane in order to close it. This creates a monetary incentive for the contractor to be innovative and minimize the duration of lane closures.
  • Interim Completion Dates
Interim completion dates are a method of providing the contractor with an incentive or disincentive to expedite the completion of specific portions of a contract. This is done by requiring a portion of the contract to be accomplished within a set duration or by a specified date. The portion requiring an interim completion may also include a prescribed start date.
  • Flexible Start Date
The Flexible Start Date provision allows the contractor some discretion, within given criteria, to establish when a project's working days are going to start.
  • Lump Sum Traffic Control
Lump Sum Traffic Control is a method to streamline all traffic control unit items into a single item. The contractor submits a single lump sum bid for developing, implementing and maintaining traffic control on a contract.
