SEATTLE – Ferry riders feel the squeeze as work to replace the state’s seismically-vulnerable Colman Dock expands into the next phase of construction. Partial demolition of the 50-year-old terminal building begins this week and lasts through summer 2019. The terminal building will remain open, but it will be smaller with fewer food options.

SEATTLE – A surge in boardings in 2017 pushed Washington State Ferries to its highest ridership since 2002. Last year, the nation’s largest ferry system carried nearly 24.5 million people, enough to fill CenturyLink Field every day of the year. Ridership grew by more than 250,000 over 2016, increasing for the ninth consecutive year.

A sparkling white and green Washington state ferry is the center of attention at Vigor’s Harbor Island Shipyard in Seattle today as the Washington State Department of Transportation christened Suquamish, the fleet’s fourth Olympic Class vessel.
