Title: Scenic and Recreational Highways of Washington State
Geospatial Data Presentation Form: vector digital data
Description:
Abstract:
This data set is a linear representation of Washington State Routes that are designated as part of the Scenic and Recreational Highway System by RCW47.39.020 and RCW47.42.140. Each Scenic Highway is represented by a single line regardless of whether or not the highway is divided.
Purpose:
This data set is used as a reference layer for geographic information systems at the Washington State Department of Transportation. This data set is for general mapping purposes. It is intended to be used at a scale of approximately 1:500,000. This dataset is current as of June 30, 2012.
Supplemental Information: This data set includes segments excluded from the Scenic System per RCW47.42.025.

Source Contribution: State Routes of Washington at 1:500,000 is a linearly referenced GIS dataset. This dataset was used at the route reference for the Scenic Highways dataset.
Process Step:
Process Description:
Translate Generic Highway Descriptions: Scenic Highway descriptions from RCW 47.39.020 and RCW 47.42.140 were translated into a format that could be mapped using a GIS. This translation process required the use of the Washington State Highway log, the State Milepost Map, and the 500K highway linear referncing system GIS dataset to get actual route measures for each designated Scenic Highway. The end product was an Excel table with one record for each designated Scenic Highway route. Each record had an attribute for State Route ID, beginning and ending milepost values, and beginning and ending accumulated route measure values, and a description of the scenic highway. All data are current as of June 30, 2012.
