Managing stormwater from state highways

Provide feedback on our stormwater plan

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) invites you to provide feedback on the 2019 Draft Stormwater Management Program Plan (SWMPP) (pdf 452 kb) by October 18, 2019.

WSDOT manages stormwater runoff from paved surfaces like highways, rest areas, park-and-ride lots, ferry terminals, and maintenance facilities in urban areas throughout the state. In spring 2019, the Washington State Department of Ecology issued WSDOT a Municipal Stormwater Permit that regulates stormwater runoff from these paved surfaces. WSDOT prepared the 2019 Draft SWMPP to describe how WSDOT will implement the 2019 permit’s requirements.

Email feedback to the Stormwater Permit Program Manager, sheena.pietzold@wsdot.wa.gov, or mail it to:

           WSDOT
           Stormwater Permit Program
           PO Box 47332
           Olympia, WA 98504-7332

WSDOT will consider all comments it receives by October 18, 2019, before finalizing the 2019 plan. WSDOT will consider comments received after October 18, 2019, for next year’s plan.

To see what is different from the previous permit, review the 2014 SWMPP in Appendix 5 of WSDOT’s 2014 Municipal Stormwater Permit (pdf 740 kb).
