SR 99 MAINLINE AND RAMP CLOSURES IN SEATTLE

NORTH OF DENNY WAY

Ongoing: Aurora Avenue North remains reduced to 1 lane in each direction between Denny Way and Harrison Street for North Surface Street construction

April 19: Overnight signal work at intersection of Seventh Avenue North (formerly Aurora Avenue North) and Denny Way. Beginning Saturday morning, southbound drivers approaching Denny Way will no longer be able to turn left onto Denny or Seventh Avenue.

BELLTOWN

March-April: Elliott Avenue between Lenora and Wall streets is temporarily a two-way street while part of Elliott Avenue is closed for viaduct demolition work.

March-April: Battery Street between Elliott Avenue and Western Avenue is temporarily a two-way street while the intersection of Western Avenue and Bell Street is closed for viaduct demolition work.

April 21: Battery Street Tunnel work will require lane closures on Battery Street between Second and Fifth avenues. All closures will be 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. on weekdays.

DOWNTOWN WATERFRONT

Ongoing: Crews have begun removing the Alaskan Way Viaduct. Visit the work tracker to see current work locations.

Ongoing: Western Avenue between Marion and Columbia streets will be closed for building the new temporary pedestrian bridge.

April 10: Alaskan Way is narrowed to two lanes between Marion and Seneca streets for nearby viaduct demolition work.

SOUTH OF YESLER WAY

April 15-26: Lanes around the south end of the SR 99 tunnel will be closed intermittently for drainage inspection work.

  • SR 99 southbound on-ramp reduced to one lane. Alaskan Way South also reduced to one lane south of South Dearborn Street with a flagger directing traffic.
  • Alaskan Way southbound reduced to one lane from South King Street to South Dearborn Street
  • SR 99 northbound off-ramp reduced to one lane. Westbound lane of South Dearborn Street also reduced to one lane.

UPCOMING NIGHTTIME NOISE WORK

  • Crews have begun work to fill the Battery Street Tunnel. Some of this work is taking place at night from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Vibration and noise may be noticed from the surface of Battery Street between Second Avenue and Denny Way.
  • Crews have begun removing the Alaskan Way Viaduct at multiple locations along Seattle's waterfront. Read more about what to expect from demolition.
