US 395 - Deer Park Corridor Safety Improvements - Roundabouts

Project news

  • The Contract was awarded to Inland Asphalt Paving on May 2nd with a bid of $2,959,959.
  • WSDOT held an Open House at Deer Park City Hall on June 7 to update the residents on the schedule and traffic considerations during construction.

Needs & Benefits

Intersections in the Deer Park area experience a higher than average number of "entering at angle" collisions. These are crashes where drivers enter the roadway into the path of oncoming vehicles.  This project entails construction of single lane roundabouts at the Short/Main and Monroe/Crawford intersections in Deer Park, WA.  Turning modifications will be built at the Burroughs/Dalton intersection.  Roundabouts should reduce the frequency and severity of "entering at angle" collisions at these locations.

More information can be found on the US 395 - Deer Park Intersection Improvement Study page.

Timeline

Work began on the roundabout at Short/Main on June 18th. Traffic was routed onto the new roundabout July 18th. The intersection is scheduled to be operationally complete by July 23rd. At that time, construction will begin on the Monroe/Crawford roundabout. North and south traffic movements will continue at this intersection, but Monroe will be restricted to southbound off and southbound on only. Access at Crawford will be closed. These restrictions will be in place until the end of August. Once the second roundabout is operational, access to US 395 at Burroughs and Dalton will be removed.

No lane closures will be allowed on US 395, Monday through Friday, between 6am and 9am nor between 3pm and 6pm. Motorists should expect construction delays outside of these times. Lanes will be striped at 10 feet with 4 foot shoulders and the speed will be reduced to 25 mph advisory speeds. No Lane Closures on July 28th for Deer Park's Settlers Day
