Why is WSDOT Repaving US 101 through South Bend and adding curb ramps to the sidewalks?
The pavement on US 101 between D Street and Water Street is showing signs of wear and tear. The road needs repaving to prevent additional damage and more costly repairs in the future. Sidewalk curb ramps will be improved to help people of all abilities as the travel along this stretch.

The End Result

Paving the road extends the life of the pavement and reduces the need for expensive and unplanned repairs.

New curb ramps will provide safe street crossings for people of all abilities.

Needs & benefits

Preservation – Keeps the road in good working condition for several years.

Improves sidewalk crossings – Easier for people using the sidewalk to cross the street.

Timeline

  • Advertise project for competitive bid – Feb. 26, 2018
  • Construction scheduled to begin – Summer 2018
  • Construction scheduled for completion – Fall 2018
