SR 99 - Spokane St. Br. to Alaskan Way Viaduct Concrete Pavement Rehab - Project Photos

A concrete panel on southbound SR 99, just south of downtown Seattle, is badly damaged with cracks and old potholes.

To replace the damaged panels, contractor crews first sawcut around the damaged areas in order to remove the panel.

Dowel bars are inserted into neighboring concrete panels and secured in place. When the concrete is poured for the new panel, the dowel bars will help tie the panels together, making the roadway stronger. The panels are also less likely to rock back and forth as cars travel over the seam between the new panel and the old panel.

A damaged piece of concrete is lifted from SR 99 so contractors can pour a new panel.
