Why is WSDOT repairing the bridge deck on the Cowlitz River Bridge, officially named the Harry E. Morgan Bridge, on eastbound SR 432 in Cowlitz County?
Cracks and ruts in the pavement on the Cowlitz River Bridge are signs the bridge deck is showing its age. Heavy traffic and weather conditions are no help in preventing further deterioration.

In Summer 2017, crews will resurface the eastbound bridge deck. Doing this work now will preserve the integrity and life of the roadway, providing a cost-effective fix before the underlying road is damaged.

What should drivers expect?
Lane closures, detours and delays of up to 20 minutes, along with a reduced speed limit within the work zone. Note: During construction, crews will close the eastbound Cowlitz River Bridge on two separate weekends. Drivers will follow a posted detour during the bridge closures. The End Result
This resurfacing project will rehabilitate the existing pavement and preserve this important transportation infrastructure serving 35,000 vehicles a day.

Project Benefits

  • Preservation: The new concrete overlay will help preserve the roadway’s structural integrity and prolong its usable life.
  • Economic: This project helps maintain a vital transportation connection.
