Needs & Benefits

The pavement on State Route 164 near the State Route 18 interchange in Auburn was cracked and deteriorating with wheel ruts and potholes from years of vehicle traffic. Contractor crews working for WSDOT grinded and repaved both directions of SR 164 between the SR 18 interchange and 17th St SE. WSDOT contractor crews also improved 22 sidewalk ramps to create better sidewalk connections for people of all abilities. Benefits include:

  • Preservation - Drivers on SR 164 in Auburn now have a smoother driving surface and the road will be preserved for years to come.
  • Safety - The smoother road surface will keep water from pooling in potholes and wheel ruts and the new sidewalk curb ramps will provide better sidewalk access to people of all abilities.
