Why is WSDOT repaving SR 164 in Auburn?

The pavement on State Route 164 near the State Route 18 interchange in Auburn is cracked and deteriorating with wheel ruts and potholes from years of vehicle traffic.

Contractor crews working for WSDOT will grind and repave both directions of SR 164 between the SR 18 interchange and 17th St SE.

WSDOT contractor crews will also improve 22 sidewalk ramps to create a smoother transition for pedestrians.

The end result

Drivers on SR 164 will have nearly one mile of new pavement in both directions and pedestrians will have 22 new sidewalk ramps.

Project benefits

Preservation - Drivers on SR 164 in Auburn will have a smoother driving surface and the road will be preserved for years to come.

Safety - The smoother road surface will keep water from pooling in potholes and wheel ruts and the new pedestrian ramps will be wider with a more gradual slope to make it easier to access the sidewalk from the street.
