SR 16 - W of SE Burley Olalla Rd to Jct SR 3 - Paving

Project news

  • This project will begin Monday, May 14 and will be complete during summer.
  • Crews will repave a roughly 11.3-mile section of State Route 16. The work will repave areas of the left lanes between Gorst and Southeast Burley Olalla Road.
  • Drivers will encounter night single-lane closures. Short-term night ramp closures will also be required at each ramp between Southeast Burley Olalla Road and Bay Street (SR 166).

Why is WSDOT paving areas of State Route 16 between Gorst and Port Orchard.
This section of SR 16 has cracks and ruts in many places that can lead to potholes. Some areas of this highway have not been paved for the past 15 years.

The project will extend the life of the highway and provide a smoother ride for the 60,000 to 75,000 vehicles that travel through this area every day.

The End Result
This project will improve the ride quality of the highway and extend the life of the roadway.

The work also will reduce the need for emergency closures and costly repairs.
