Overview
This roadway preservation and freight/tourism economic improvement project paved and upgraded ten miles of US 97 from the Canadian border to five miles south of Oroville in Okanogan County. Construction began May 29th and was complete on September 28th, 2007.

How You Benefit
Cross GlyphImproves Safety
With the installation of rumble strips, new signs and striping. It also brings Oroville sidewalk ramps up to American Disability Act (ADA) Standards.
Dollar Sign Glyph Economic Incentive
This project prevents further deterioration to the existing roadway. The road surface was also improved with stronger asphalt to handle the increasing truck and tourist traffic.

Partnerships & Cooperation
This project combined a Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) local project to pave two city streets and rebuild sidewalk ramps in Oroville.

Funding

The WSDOT contracted with an engineering consultant firm, J-U-B Engineers, Inc. to design the project and establish the plans, specifications and estimates for the work.
The project was advertised for private contractor bids on November 27th, 2006 with the bid opening on January 11th, 2007. On January 29th Contract #7248 was awarded to Valley Asphalt & Paving, Inc., A division of Hap Taylor & Sons, Inc. for $2,661,000, 1% over the engineering estimate.

The project was funded through the following sources:

  • Pre-Existing Gas Tax - $1.70 million
  • Coordinated Border Infrastructure Program - $1.70 million
  • Total funding from all sources - $3.4 million
