This I-2 Highway Capital Improvement - Collision Prevention Safety Project installed a turning lane on US 97 at Barber Road in Douglas County.
This project is to reduce the frequency and severity of traffic conflicts and improve mobility. Increased development increased traffic in the area served by Barber Road. A Northbound turn lane was added in addition to the existing southbound right turn pocket. The road was widened, new illumination and pavement markings installed, and slope flattening improved visibility.
Construction began June 3 and was complete in September, 2013.
Traffic has a safe place to wait, outside the through lanes, reducing the potential for rear end and T-bone collisions.
That safe place to wait also improves mobility as through traffic no longer has to stop behind turning traffic.
Partnerships & Cooperation
Orchardists and Packing house operators endorsed the project as it reduced truck transportation time from orchards to processors.
