Why is WSDOT
upgrading this intersection?
This project is to reduce the frequency and severity of traffic conflicts and improve mobility. Due to increased development that has increased traffic in the area served by Barber Road, a Northbound turn lane will be added in addition to the existing southbound right turn pocket. The road will be widened, new illumination and pavement markings will be installed, and slope flattening will improve visibility.
The End Result
Traffic will have a safe place to wait, outside the through lanes, improving mobility and reducing the potential for rear end and T-bone collisions.
Project Benefits
The new left turn Lane will seperate turning traffic from the mainline through traffic, decreasing traffic conflicts.
What is the project timeline?
Construction is scheduled in 2013. The project is expected to require 25 working days.
Financial Information
Project signage will reflect the cost of construction engineering, project bid award and sales tax.
