US 395 - Orient Right Turn Lane - Complete June 2009

Status

June 2009

  • Awarded to Granite Northwest, Inc.

This project consists of adding a right turn lane off of US 395 into the community of Orient.

Why is WSDOT building a right-turn lane?
A right-turn lane will enable vehicles to pull off the main highway as they access the cummunity of Orient.  This is especially important when a train is on the rail line immediately adjacent to the highway.  Vehicles waiting for the train to pass, including school busses, will no longer need to wait in the travel lane.

The End Result
The final result of the work will be a safer access into the town.

Project Benefits
Safer turning for vehicles, especially when waiting for trains at the crossing.

What is the project timeline?
The WSDOT should advertise this job for bids as soon as right of way issues are resolved.  This work was postponed from 2005.

Financial Information
Combined with the Eastern Region chip seal project.
