NSC - Francis Avenue Improvements

Status

January 2013

  • Weekly Construction Update
  • Under Construction
  • Francis Avenue traffic is now using the adjacent diversion route.
  • Awarded to Graham Construction and management of Spokane with a construction bid of $14,045,942.

This project will replace the existing, 160-foot long, Francis Avenue Bridge with a 455-foot long structure.  In addition, intersection improvements at market Street and Freya Street such as signal system and configuration changes.

Why is WSDOT replacing this bridge?
The existing bridge crosses over the BNSF Railway tracks.  The new structure provides room for the same tracks and the future new freeway to pass under Francis Avenue.

The End Result
A longer structure crossing the railway tracks and, ultimately, the new freeway facility.

Project Benefits
Improved freight and passenger vehicle mobility with the addition of the multi-lane freeway facility.

What is the project timeline?
Construction began in late October 2012 and is planned for completion in late 2013 or early 2014.

Financial Information

Project signage will reflect the cost of construction engineering, project bid award and sales tax.
