US 395 - North Spokane Corridor - BNSF Railway Realignment

Status

April 2013

Realign 7.5 miles of BNSF track, build two freeway bridges, and build two pedestrian/bike trail bridges.  Extend "Children of the Sun" trail approximately one mile into the Hillyard community.

Why is WSDOT realigning this track?
The new NSC freeway will be built down the center of the BNSF right-of-way. BNSF tracks serve customers to the east and west of the NSC. The realigned track creates a right of way wide enough to accommodate the new freeway lanes.

The End Result
A multi-modal transportation corridor with rail, vehicle, and pedestrian facilities.

Project Benefits
Improved freight and passenger vehicle mobility with the addition of the multi-lane freeway facility and extended pedestrian trail.

What is the project timeline?
The project will be advertised for construction contractor bids in May, 2013 with construction starting later in the year.

Financial Information

Project signage will reflect the cost of construction engineering, project bid award and sales tax.
