Overview
There was no access provided from the Apple Capitol Loop Trail (ACLT) and the Olds Station Industrial Area or US 97A. Bicycle commuters needed access to the Olds Station port facilities and recreational users needed access to US 97A to ride north to Rocky Reach Dam and Lake Chelan. Users had to leave the trail, carry their bikes and cross four-50 MPH traffic lanes and 2 concrete barriers on US 2/97, or cross railroad tracks and hike to US 97A to get to their destination.
This project constructed a new bridge adjacent to the railroad bridge on US 2/97 and extended the ACLT west across it and around the northbound off ramp to connect with US 97A/Euclid Avenue across from the Washington State Apple Commission Visitor Center. This provides a direct designated connection for bicyclists and pedestrians from the ACLT to the Port of Chelan County's Olds Station Industrial Park, the adjacent commercial district and shopping center and US 97A. Construction was complete on Dec. 11, 2008.
