We will repair more than 844 girders on the westbound US 2 Ebey Island Viaduct and Ebey Slough Bridge beteween 43rd Avenue SE and 50th Avenue SE. We will chip off and replace the old cracking concrete, remove corrosion from the steel frame, and reinforce the girders on the underside of the viaduct.

This work will require up to 65 total nighttime
closures of the westbound viaduct as crews work beneath the road. These closures are necessary to allow fresh mortar and carbon fiber supports to cure properly without added vehicle weight and vibration.

Why is WSDOT repairing the westbound US 2 trestle?
The Ebey Island Viaduct and Ebey Slough Bridge span 1.5 miles of westbound US 2 between Interstate 5 and State Route 204. The bridge and viaduct, made of concrete and steel, are almost 40 years old and are showing signs of wear.

We will improve driver safety, prevent further damage to the trestle and extend the life of the existing bridge girders.

We completed a rehabilitation project on the east end of the westbound trestle in 2007.

The End Result
We will improve driver safety and extend the life of the bridge to sustain the heavy traffic demands on this section of US 2.

Project Benefits
Safety: We will improve driver safety by repairing bridge girders on the Ebey Island Viaduct and Ebey Slough, making the bridge and viaduct more sound and stable.

Economic Incentive: The repairs will save money by extending the life of the bridge and viaduct.
